WHAT WE DO
It is called “The Wise River Fork” and when you get there, you want to take the correct fork. But which is it? There is so much at stake for you, your family, your business, and all of the people that are a part of your journey. Which fork protects and serves them all? Which one will you choose?
What WE DO depends on what needs to be done.
And honestly, what I do in my work depends entirely upon the people with whom I am working, and the gear I have in my toolbox. If you and I worked together, what I would do would depend upon you, and me, and us together + all those that are important to your success.
Just as you strive to differentiate your product and/or service within the marketplace, so do I. There are many who are “consultants” and “advisors” to family businesses. Some come from specific professional specializations, such as accounting, finance, law, insurance, and so on. Each person has his or her necessary and appropriate place. You already have trusted advisors in those professions, and their role is critically important. What they do with you depends upon their professional competence and your needs.
The same is true for me. I’m a Pastor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, an Organizational Development Consultant, a businessman, a husband, father, and grandfather. I have a rather unique blend of talents, interests, education, training, and experiences.
What I do depends… it depends upon your needs, and on my willingness and ability to be of help. If you and I were to meet we would have to spend some time visiting together, telling stories, sharing fears and hopes, desires and dreams, temptations and struggles. We would uncover the facts, and look for places where collaboration could produce remarkable success... for all of us.
You should know, that while our conversation would seem to be rather casual, my mind is tightly organized, as are my strategies for transformation. I was trained in Family Systems Theory, and I’ve been a rigorous student of Integral Philosophy. I’m a cartographer of developmental models and systems and I apply them to both individuals and groups. I use and teach maps and models in my work to break free from dilemmas. New tools and resources are constantly being added to my repertoire. I integrate the best from the research that is being done on the edge of evolutionary thinking and practice, with the best of the ancient wisdom and spiritual traditions that have sustained our species for millenniums.
Where I am less than capable, I rely on one or more of the Trusted Advisors with whom I have established a personal and professional relationship. If you go back to the WHO WE ARE section of this website, you will see the areas of specialization that belong to my friends and colleagues. After more than three decades working with people from West Michigan, I’ve been blessed to have a terrific network of very capable people from whom I can draw.
